Business Network Team Inaugural Meeting

By | Advice for Businesses | No Comments

I attended the inaugural meeting of the Business Network Team. This network seeks to facilitate quality business referrals.

The meeting encourages members to learn about each other’s businesses and discuss the value they offer.

The network fills a gap between networking and learning and we’re looking forward to seeing the ongoing development of the group.

Alex Makin appointed Chair of the Australian Marketing Institute’s Victorian State Advisory Committee

The Australian Marketing Institute is the peak association for the marketing profession within Australia. Both myself and Syneka Marketing are members of the Australian Marketing Institute to support the aims of the association.

I recently joined the State Advisory Committee to help shape the future direction of the Australian Marketing Institute and our inaugural meeting was held this evening. At this meeting I was confirmed as Chair for the Victorian State Advisory Committee for a two year term.

The Australian Marketing Institute has undertaken a substantial review phase, including new governance structures and the recent appointment of Lee Tonitto as CEO. As a result, there is an emphasis on strengthening the marketing profession, and growing the relevancy of the Australian Marketing Institute.

The State Advisory Committee is responsible for event planning, as well as member recruitment and retention within Victoria. We have a great team of marketing professionals who have offered their time to the State Advisory Committee and I look forward to working with each member in 2015 and beyond.

I would also like to thank Christine Walker, the outgoing Chair of the Victorian Council. Christine was one of the first people I met through the Australian Marketing Institute and we share a similar passion in developing the marketing profession.

I have often commented that there is a need to define marketing and articulate the value that marketing offers. I look forward to growing the Australian Marketing Institute and highlighting the importance of marketing as a critical function in any business or organisation.

Business Over Breakfast – Inaugural Meeting

By | Advice, Advice for Businesses | No Comments

Business Over Breakfast is a business group that meets on a fortnightly basis to promote shared knowledge and networking.

Syneka Marketing is a foundation member of Business Over Breakfast and this morning I attended the first meeting of the group in Australia. Unlike other business networking groups, Business Over Breakfast, has a focus on exchanging knowledge and sharing business experiences.

While Business Over Breakfast is prevalent in the UK, US and New Zealand, Australia’s first Business Over Breakfast Club meets at the Docklands on a fortnightly basis. Please contact me on alex@synekamarketing.com.au if you would like to be part of Australia’s first Business over Breakfast Club.

Inaugural Meeting of the Rotary eClub of Greater Melbourne

By | News | One Comment

The Rotary eClub of Greater Melbourne was successfully charted earlier this month, after reaching the required 25 members.

This evening the Club held its first meeting, providing an opportunity for members to meet each other and to discuss the next steps for the first Rotary eClub in Victoria and Rotary District 9810.

Syneka Marketing developed the Rotary eClub of Greater Melbourne website providing an online community, with a range of interactive tools including forums and online conversations. These tools aim to replicate a Rotary meeting environment by encouraging participation, as well as maintaining a transcript of each meeting.

The eClub provides Rotary with new opportunities to expand its membership by promoting the organisation to new target markets. The Rotary eClub of Greater Melbourne will be able to complement the activities of existing Rotary Clubs within the District.

In particular, there are significant opportunities to promote the Club to individuals who are unable to attend weekly meetings, due to work or travel commitments. It is also important that the eClub is able to attract new members into Rotary, rather than siphoning members from other Clubs. For example, the eClub has significant potential in being able to introduce younger members into Rotary. In this regard, it will be important to promote the eClub through its community service projects and utilise this as a way to introduce Rotary to a new generation of prospective Rotarians.

Planning is now underway for the Club’s activities and an official charter event will be held in the middle of August.
